The Institute for Multisensory Education (IMSE) recognized LDA’s letter issuing a strong warning and a call to action by public officials in Flint, Michigan. The article, posted on Twitter on February 19, stated LDA’s concern about the negative effects of lead exposure on the cognitive functioning and psychological health of children. An implementation plan was suggested by LDA for state and local public officials to seriously consider.
“Working with organizations such as IMSE to help get the word out about the dangerous effects of lead exposure is important,” said Pat Lillie, President of LDA. “Part of LDA’s mission is to reduce the incidence of learning disabilities in future generations. Actions taken by the city of Flint, Michigan, can’t be taken back now. However, educating others to prevent this from happening again is our goal as well as to guide those who have been affected to find the appropriate resources if needed.”
