ACT Announces Improvements to the ACT® Test Accommodations System

ACT recently said that students with disabilities who apply for accommodations on the college entrance exam “will soon benefit from a new system that will simplify and speed up the application process.” That new process will debut in June. The changes come after scrutiny from advocates, who have watched closely to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to standardized tests. ACT said about 200,000 students applied for accommodations on the test during the 2015-16 school year, a 13 percent increase from the year before. That increase is likely due to growth in ACT testing overall, a spokesman said. Students who apply for accommodations represent 3.5 percent of all students who register for the test.
