Removing Roadblocks and Creating Pathways:

Supporting Children with LD/ADHD in the Classroom and at Home

LDA is proud to present two regional workshops with appropriate tracks for both Parents and Professionals this fall in Dallas, Texas and Nashua, New Hampshire!

Who should attend?

General Education Teachers, Special Education Teachers, School Administrators, Parents, Caregivers and Anyone who wants to learn more about helping children with learning disabilities.

*CEUs will be offered through Virginia Commonwealth University.

For Professionals: Removing Roadblocks - Understanding and Supporting Students with LD/ADHD in the Mainstream Classroom.

Featured Speakers:
Allen Broyles, LDA Board of Directors, Assistant Head of School, The Children's School, Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Scott Hamilton, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Assistant Head of School and High School Principal, The Howard School, Atlanta, Georgia

Our Workshop for Professionals will help teachers become more aware of and able to identify those roadblocks. They will also be better equipped to plan lessons that anticipate them and to offer compensatory strategies for students to fully express what they know and are able to do.

  • Learning struggles present as roadblocks to expressing what the student knows.
  • With proper planning, teachers can teach in ways that minimize the roadblocks.
  • There are low-impact, easy to implement strategies that can help students bypass their roadblocks.
  • Using Universal Design for Learning concepts as a framework helps teachers design lessons with all the potential roadblocks in mind. Anticipating and accounting for all of them makes instruction more accessible to a wider range of student profiles.
  • Student production does not necessarily equate with the student's internal state of ability. Lessons with alternate strategies for students to learn new material and to express what they know will reach more students and result in more learning.

For Parents: Success for a Lifetime - Exploring and Developing Life Success Attributes.

Featured Speaker:
John WillsonExecutive Director, SOAR, Balsam, North Carolina

Our Workshop for Parents focuses on strategies fostering self-awareness and executive function skills critical for social competence, academic accomplishment, and life-long success. These life success attributes include self-awareness, goal setting, pro-activity, perseverance, support systems utilization and emotional coping skills. The strategies are practical, low-cost, and can be utilized by the entire family.

  • Identify competencies gleaned from longitudinal research of successful adults with LD and ADHD.
  • Identify specific skills and strategies that enable youth with LD and ADHD to be successful in life.
  • Identify practical skills and strategies that can be used by parents to facilitate success for youth with LD and ADHD.
