Analisa Smith ImageDo you realize that the Learning Disabilities Association of America has been advocating for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities and to reduce the incidence of learning disabilities for almost fifty-six years now? One thing to think about for your affiliate is how your state visualizes individuals with a learning disability? In all endeavors, remember that LDA’s vision is a to have a world in which all individuals with learning disabilities are empowered to thrive and participate fully in society; the incidence of learning disabilities is reduced; and learning disabilities are universally understood and effectively addressed. Our mission is to create opportunities for success for all individuals affected by learning disabilities and to reduce the incidence of learning disabilities in future generations. What activities does your affiliate do or participate in that support the vision and mission above? We would like to hear from you if you have ideas to share. Please send these to Kaci or Analisa if you would like to discuss an idea or perhaps how to pursue something for your affiliate?

In 1963, a small group of dedicated parents and educators met in Chicago. These parents and educators were all concerned that their children and students were in dire need of services that did not exist. This is when LDA of America (Association for Children with Learning Disabilities [ACLD]) was born. LDA of America was a grassroots organization from the beginning and is one of only a few such organizations still in existence today. You are part of this history and carrying the work forward. LDA has paved the way and continues to set the pace.
