State Affiliate Highlights

May 2021

The Learning Disabilities Association of Michigan (LDAMI) works to enhance the quality of life for all individuals with learning disabilities and their families through advocacy, education, training, service and support of research.

Though LDAMI had to work to recently reestablish their non-profit status, they have been a state affiliate of LDA America since 1969. They have one currently active local chapter in Washtenaw County and another one forming in SE Michigan. They are proud that MI has participated with Healthy Children Project for almost twenty years and that in 2015, they established the Flo Curtis Special Education Endowment Fund with the Education Department at Michigan State University.

Coming Up

LDAMI Administrative Consultant Maura Race shared that LDAMI has a lot of other plans for 2021! “We are currently working on a membership drive, have scheduled additional webinars with Dr. Dawn Flanagan, are looking at some hybrid models for our 2021 Annual Conference in October, added a development aspect to our work for grant funding and planned giving, and are working on expanding our Board of Directors”. She also shared that they will have a survey going out to those in Michigan for feedback on important issues coming out soon. Stay tuned to their website or their Facebook page for more information!
