Yoga and Mindfulness

Practices to help children become calm, alert and regulated at home, in school and in the community.
This experiential workshop will offer participants an overview of author, counselor and yoga teacher Helene McGlauflin’s approach to using yoga and mindfulness practices with children to enhance regulation and social skills, which she calls Calm and Alert. Woven into the presentation will be opportunities to practice or observe brief mindfulness experiences, and practice or observe Helene demonstrating some core yoga practices she utilizes in her teaching. Participants will be introduced to Helene’s six core concepts for skill development: respect, calm, alert, learning times, transition times, social times, with examples from Helene’s experience teaching hundreds of children over fifteen years how to breathe more deeply, move more skillfully and think more positively.
